Holiday Au-Pairs Usually work during June, July and August (sometimes less, e.g. 6 weeks) and may be required to accompany the family on holiday. Since the children are out of school, there may be less free time than during an academic year and often no chance to study a language. Otherwise, the same rules apply as for ordinary au-pairing.
Au-Pair Plus Is often required by households with two working parents, who are often away from home the whole day. She will be asked to perform a variety of tasks, not only related to the children (more housework and/or cooking) and to work longer hours. The average weekly pay is £60-£120 depending on amount and ages of the children and duties required. This position is only suitable for fit, energetic, strong and capable applicants.
Free time The Au-Pair is given free time daily to study or to pursue other interests. Usually 2 days a week are free, one of which must be SUNDAY. Au-pair is provided with her own bedroom, but not excluded from the rest of the family.
Other conditions *The Au-Pair is responsible for her own language course fees. Many families nowadays offer to contribute towards the cost, however the au-pair should not expect it. It often depends on how happy family is with the au-pair`s work. If an au-pair is forced to travel to attend the lesson from, for example, an out of town place, an arrangement is usually made--families either provide a car or help her with the travel expenses.
*A students from some non EEC countries might be required to register with the Police at the Aliens Registration Office within 7 days of arrival. They will need a passport, two passport size photographs and a fee of £35.
*The Au-Pair is responsible for her own travelling expenses from her home country. Families are expected to collect her from the place of her arrival, but if this is not possible, the agency will advise of other means of getting to the family and the family will pay for this part of the journey.
*Every au-pair will receive a formal letter of invitation from the family, giving some information about her duties, pay, free time and also a few words about the family itself. Au-pair cannot enter the UK without a Letter of Invitation.
