ACE AU-PAIRS agency is here to provide you with the service you are looking for. We listen to your needs and wants and put them into reality. We are here for you, not only at the beginning, but all the way through your relationship with your family, which we will carefully select, to fit  you.

Many young men and women, who apply for the job, do not actually know what being an Au-Pair involves. Therefore we have written this guide for you to read, to make it a little bit easier for you, when deciding whether to accept the offer.

We pride ourselves on our thorough selection process.

The official purpose of the arrangement is to provide single men and women, aged 17-27, with the chance to study a foreign language and culture, while living as a part of a family, looking after their children and helping around the house. There are a few categories of this arrangement.

Au-pair
Au-Pairs should work for no more than 25 hours a week over 5 days, plus two evenings of babysitting. Au-Pairs get paid pocket money of no less than £55 a week.
Au-Pairs do not sign a contract, since the arrangement is an informal one. They are treated more like family members than employees. An Au-Pair has much less responsibility for the welfare of the children, than does a nanny, and is not normally expected to take sole charge of a very young child.
During school holidays she usually works more hours for extra pocket money.

Holiday Au-Pairs
Usually work during June, July and August (sometimes less, e.g. 6 weeks) and may be required to accompany the family on  holiday. Since the children are out of school, there may be less free time than during an academic year and often no chance to study a language. Otherwise, the same rules apply as for ordinary au-pairing.

Au-Pair Plus
Is often required by households with two working parents, who are often away from home the whole day. She will be asked to perform a variety of tasks, not only related to the children (more housework and/or cooking) and to work longer hours. The average weekly pay is £60-£120 depending on amount and ages of the children and duties required. This position is only suitable for fit, energetic, strong and capable applicants.

Free time
The Au-Pair is given free time daily to study or to pursue other interests. Usually 2 days a week are free, one of which must be SUNDAY. Au-pair is provided with her own bedroom, but not excluded from the rest of the family.

Other conditions
*The Au-Pair is responsible for her own language course fees. Many families nowadays offer to contribute towards the cost, however the au-pair should not expect it. It often depends on how happy family is with the au-pair`s work. If an au-pair is forced to travel to attend the lesson from, for example, an out of town place, an arrangement is usually made--families either provide a car or help her with the travel expenses.

*A students from some non EEC countries might be required to register with the Police at the Aliens Registration Office within 7 days of arrival. They will need a passport, two passport size photographs and a fee of £35.

*The Au-Pair is responsible for her own travelling expenses from her home country. Families are expected to collect her from the place of her arrival, but if this is not possible, the agency will advise of other means of getting to the family and the family will pay for this part of the journey.

*Every au-pair will receive a formal letter of invitation from the family, giving some information about  her duties, pay, free time and also a few words about the family itself. Au-pair cannot enter the UK without a Letter of Invitation.
